Meet the new boss...
In Russia under the USSR, they pretended to work and the state pretended to pay them. Now they work, the corporations don't even pretend to pay them, and if they go on strike the cops do this:
The cop says it was an act of self defence because she was just about to blast him with a...handbag.
First business was owned by the government. Now the government is owed by business. Business and the government were the same people before, and business and government are the same now. And that's where we're headed. If you don't take action today, there will be statues of Comrade-Excecutive-Officer Kenny-Boy Lay in every park tomorrow.

After World War II, the United States launched its Marshall Plan for European reconstruction. The plan helped rebuild Europe, stabilized its then fledgling capitalist democracies, and rid it forever of the starving children a generation of postwar moms like mine would invoke to shame a generation of boomer children to clear their plates. It also generated incalculable amounts of good will toward the United States.
The Marshall Plan cost this country more than 2 percent of GDP for several years. We paid it willingly as a people. Two percent is more than 130 times the 0.015 percent we now spend on the world's poor.
This Memorial Day, as I pause to honor those lost in World War II and other wars, the comparison shames me. Are we really today 130 times less human, and more stupid, than the country they thought they were fighting for?

The $10,000 grill...equipped with built-in smokeboxes, cocktail carts, plate warmers, digital temperature probes - all meant for your custom "outdoor room" (with refrigerator, wet bar, pizza oven) - never slumped...Also back is the $11,750 case of wine, a St. Emilion auctioned recently at Sotheby's. The $700 Yves St. Laurent shoulderbag with deer-horn handle is prancing off the shelves at Bergdorf Goodman.
"So here are our priorities. Faced with a proposal that would save the lives of eight million people every year, many of them children, we balk at the cost. But when asked to give up revenue equal to twice that cost, in order to allow each of 3,300 lucky families to collect its full $16 million inheritance rather than a mere $10 million, we don't hesitate."

U.S. Public Backs Foreign Aid, Misperceives Amount, Poll Finds
By Emily Schwartz
Washington, Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The average American says the U.S. should spend one-tenth of its federal budget on foreign aid, about 10 times the current level, according to a University of Maryland poll.
http://www.bread.org/media/articles/010202%20related/bloomberg.html
All UN staff, including the specialized agencies and funds, are fewer than the civil service of the City of Stockholm or the staff of McDonalds. The core UN budget is one half of one percent of the US military budget and far less than the cost of one B-2 bomber aircraft.

An ounch of prevention is worth what?
According to Republicans, preventing AIDS is a waste of money. Yeah, that's not news, but can you say it while witnessing AIDS victims dieing right in front of you? O'Neill did.
"O'Neill, who has often criticized recipient countries for the misuse of foreign aid, said he was shocked to learn that so much of the aid money coming into South Africa was being used for prevention instead of treatment."
Oh, I get it - prevention would mean condoms! As any republican can tell you, condoms are evil. Probably because they're too big for republicans, and keep falling off and getting stuck in their cousin/mule.

Bush you hypocritical, snobbish piece of sh!t!
Bush, who has never worked a day in his life, just told a MOTHER OF NINE "''For a person who has never worked a day in her life ... you're one articulate soul.''
This is the thing that pi$$e$ me off about the welfare debate - raising kids with the help of a husband is FAMILY VALUES HARD WORK, yet raising kids without the help of a husband is LAZY.
This welfare reform is just a trick so that republicans can beat their wives without them running away.

It starts like this:
Mom: Good morning.
Kid: I didn't take any cookies! I never went near the cookie jar! You're blaming me because you don't love me...
And then it's:
Crook: "It's not true! I didn't tie her up and slit her throat and bury her 2.5 miles outside the city limits..."
Cop: "Dude, we just heard she was missing. When was the last time you saw her?"
Crook: "Nobody ever hired me as a hitman! What are you, a communist?"
And at the final stage of evil, it turns to:
Dems: We started investigating Pearl Habour within two days. Can we start investigating this much, much worse attack now, or should we wait another 8 months?
GOP: Truth is unpatiotic! If you find out who's guilty, you'll take attention away from the guilty! You don't love Bush, do you! You're acting like you're politicians or something! WOLF! WOLF! WOLF! Clinton had S-E-X! Clinton and Monica, sittin in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G, first comes love, then comes marriage...

I've looking at policy wonking lately. The group of 8 summit in Kananaskis / Calgary, Alberta is coming up, and I want more than just nifty slogans. The problem is that you can't put a 20-page study on a little sign or a three word chant. Note that all of my sources are actual think tanks in the origional meaning of the term - they think of solutions, as opposed to conservative "think-tanks" that are just advertising agencies.

Make them accountable! Or they'll make you dead.
And let's not forget Znets page on Global Economics.
Here are lots of links answering the question, How does George W Bush stand on family values?

Why Bush doesn't care when Israelis get blown to pieces:
Can a Jew Go to Heaven? George W. Bush Answered "No" in 1994"...Bush joked to reporters about his '94 answer a year or so ago, prior to a trip to the Middle East. According to stories in the Austin American-Statesman, he told reporters that he planned to stop in Israel and tell the Jews they were all going to hell...
Washington Jewish Week and other media outlets discovered that the Bush campaign harbored well known neo-Nazis, including Jerome Brentar, a holocaust revisionist who claims that the Nazis never deliberately gassed victims of the Holocaust, and Akselis Mangulis, who was involved in the SS-influenced Latvian Legion during World War II..... After the election, four of these came back to work for the Republican Party according to USA Today.
